Five on Friday meme

1. What are your favorite ethnic/regional cuisines (Italian, Mexican, Thai, etc.)?

2. When visit a restaurant serving that kind of food, what do you generally order?

3. Which ethnic food or dish is your favorite to make yourself?

4. If you could travel to one country or region, just to experience the food, where would you go?

5. Where would you not want to go because of the food?

My answers:
1. Thai and Mexican
2. For thai, it's always Khaeng Phed (Red Curry), with chicken and hot, unless I'm feeling brave, then I go with native. For Mexican, it depends on the restaurant. I love Chili Rellenos, but there is only one restaurant here that makes them the way I like them.
3. I'm not much of a cook, so I would have to wimp out, and say tacos.
4. Hmmm, I think Italy.
5. Vietnam. I am basing this on one visit to a Vietnamese restaurant here.

1. Italian and Chinese.
2. Italian: I usually order or any kind of angel hair pasta. maybe a shrimp and angel hair dish.
Chinese: beef chow fun, fried rice and pot stickers.
3. I make a stir fry at least twice a week. Sometimes with chicken and sometimes with beef. I make an excellent lasagna and I make an awesome pot of crockpot chili.
4. Probably Italy. But I will say, I have been to Mexico and they have great food. I don't know why it's not one of my favorites here.
5. Vietnam, Korea, England.

2. I try different things when I get Italian, and usually Carne Asada tacos when I get Mexican.

3. I have made simple Mexican, like tacos, burritos and enchiladas. Also Salsa. *yum*

4. Italy

5. Hmmm. There are tons of places where I wouldn't want to eat the food. I'll say Korea and India.

1. What are your favorite ethnic/regional cuisines (Italian, Mexican, Thai, etc.)?
---Oh, Indian. Definately Indian.

2. When visit a restaurant serving that kind of food, what do you generally order?
---My favorite Indian restaurant has a lunch buffet that I just love! I like the naan bread, Palak Paneer (fresh cooked spinach with paneer cheese chunks), Vegetarian Koftah, Beef Kormah and Begum Biryani (chicken with rice). For dessert I love their Kheer (a very soupy, pistachio flavored rice pudding) or Gulab Jamun (deep fried milk balls in a sugary syrup.)

3. Which ethnic food or dish is your favorite to make yourself?
---Chicken Saag (a spicey chicken and spinach dish), or Chicken Curry.

4. If you could travel to one country or region, just to experience the food, where would you go?
---Malaysia. It has the best of all my favorite ethnics - Indian, Chinese, Indonsian - not to mention their own very good Malaysian specialties!

5. Where would you not want to go because of the food?
---Germany. Sausage and sauerkraut. Bleccch.

1. I guess Italian with Mexican being a close second.

2. Something spicy! Shrimp fra diablo, or something with eggplant or other seafood. Appetizer definately mussels marinara.

3. Italian, definately the easiest. Lasagna is great for company.

4. Italy cause of the wine. Although I would like to try France.

5. Probably somewhere that is bland or serves bugs. England I did not like the food so much. I don't think I would like one of those Asian countries where everything has a face on it. Or a duck embryo.

1. If I'm not cooking, Indian or Japanese (suuuushi). If I am, Italian.

2. I don't have a real set menu. I order the special if I can and avoid raw squid.

3. There is something very satisfying about making dhal, although lately I have been making a lot of pasta with oil-based sauces (I made one the other day with anchovies, tomatoes, parsley, and something else I don't remember).

4. Probably Italy.

5. Japan, oddly enough.
